The Chicago Cubs dominated the National League Central in 2016. The Cubs rode their historic momentum all the way to their first World Series championship since the 1908 season. The other four division rivals stood no chance against Chicago last season. 2017 has been a completely different story. Nobody has been able to get out of the blocks and take command of the division. It is safe to say the National League Central is the least intriguing division in Major League Baseball in 2017.
Fierce competition exists in the National League West in 2017. Three teams, separated by less than three games, are fighting for their place atop the division standings by the time the postseason rolls around. The possibility of three teams, from this division, reaching the playoffs is very real. The west is not all peaches and cream. This division, however, has still been the most exciting thus far.
The Chicago Cubs are the best team in Major League Baseball. This was the expectation coming into the season and the Cubs lived up to the hype. Chicago became the first team in 2016 to clinch their division, winning the National League Central for the first time since the 2008 season, and secured home-field advantage for the 2016 postseason. All eyes now focus toward a deep playoff run in October as the Cubs prepare to end the longest championship drought in baseball history.
